Leer is a quiet city with beautiful buildings and fragrant flowers everywhere you turn. The Calvinist Church, in the shape of a cross, is one of the oldest churches in the country. While you are there, examine the cathedral ceilings and the communion tables that display older Bibles. The church is surrounded by trees, and it is difficult to get a photograph of the entire outside of the building. If you enjoy castles, then tour the Haneburg Castle. It was built in 1621, and additional wings were added in 1677. There are several rooms that have exhibits with items from the time period the building was built, and you can take workshops in pottery and other crafts. Whether it is sunny or cloudy, you can walk along the harbor and view the cargo and fishing boats. You can spend the entire day walking from the bridge to various points along the harbor. Purchase something for friends and family in the Old Town. Many of the shops are small and locally owned. The homes and business facades have a Dutch appearance.
